Leigh Bardugo on the Fierce Reads Tour!

Posted: October 31, 2013 in Events

For those of you who may not know, Leigh Bardugo is on tour right now, for the MacTeens Fierce Reads Tour, with authors Gennifer Albin, Ann Aguirre, and Jessica Brody.

You can see if they are coming near you by clicking this link.

The kick-off event for the tour was in San Diego, CA, and of course I was there!

It was an absolute blast, and Leigh was hilarious and fun, as always.

She did reveal some cool stuff, that I hadn’t heard before and I am SUPER excited to share with you.

It has been hinted for awhile that Ruin and Rising will be released around June of 2014. Leigh let us know at the event that the Darkling’s real name will be revealed in the book! I’m VERY excited about this. Of course, this turned into a humorous discussion where Jessica Brody suggested Eugene and Ann Aguirre said Steve!

Leigh also talked about how the creation of Sturmhond in Siege and Storm was like a buoy for her, and that the book was a lot darker than she had realized it would be at first, and his humor and character kept her afloat while writing. She said that he sort of leapt off the page, and wouldn’t shut up, and that when everyone else is kind of freaking out, he’s just like “I got this.”

Did you also know that she built her world, especially the magic, around the idea of molecular chemistry? That’s brilliant, and really helps to show how amazing she is at her world building.

They took some questions, and had great answers for a lot of things. See some of Leigh’s answers!

On whether she’s a pantser or a plotter:

I’m a plotter. Jessica says there’s 15 beats and I have 12. There’s a skeleton and it gets better. That helps me if I get stuck somewhere, I can go somewhere else. For example, in book two, I was planning on killing someone and I decided not to. I call it the reverse George RR Martin.

Opinion on reader’s reaction, with the outpour of negative reactions to Veronica Roth’s Allegiant:

I think readers have the right to react however they want. And authors have the right to finish the way they want. The problem I have is when people say “if you do this, I’m going to punch you in the face or kill you”. You can’t please everyone. Forced creators make horrible product.

There was also these two AMAZING fans, who cosplayed for Shadow and Bone, and I just couldn’t get over how awesome it was. I was so blown away by the effort, that I didn’t even ask for their names. Here is a picture, but if anyone knows who they are, please let me know, so I can give them some credit for this!

After that, we did the signing, and I spent some time talking to Leigh, who I always enjoy seeing. I grabbed some Grisha swag, so keep an eye out for a giveaway sometime soon!

I hope you all can head out to a Fierce Reads event in the next week!

Good news Grisha fans!

Just announced via Leigh Bardugo’s Twitter, there is now a synopsis for the final book of the Grisha Trilogy, Ruin and Rising!

Here is a screen shot of it directly from GoodReads:

What do you guys think? Share in the comments!

While chatting with Leigh Bardugo on Twitter last night, the subject of the release date for her final novel in the Grisha trilogy came up.

Her answer was this: “I *think* it will be June 3, 2014?”

This doesn’t sound too off base considering thats about a year after Siege and Storm, and a year is usually the right amount of time in between books.

We will be keeping as updated as possible on the actual release date, when the cover is revealed, and when you can start to preorder it.

Hey guys :) Over at my sister site, What A Nerd Girl Says, I recently interviewed jewelry designer, Viviane Hebel. As Grisha fans, you guys may know that she has designed some pretty awesome stuff for the Grisha trilogy.

Here’s a little sneak peek at what you can expect from the interview:

Hey guys, I know I’ve been sort of MIA lately, but I’m going to try REALLY hard to be back on board for this! You guys are awesome Grisha fans, and you deserve the best Grisha news at all times!

I hope you are all able to make it out to a stop on the Fierce Reads Tour! I’ll be at the first stop in San Diego, CA so I hope to see some of you there! And who knows, maybe an awesome giveaway will ensue from it!

I reported earlier today that Leigh Bardugo would be making appearances at San Diego Comic Con in a few weeks.

It looks like Leigh has just updated her events page on her website, and there are several opportunities for you to meet her that weekend, including one signing outside of Comic Con.

Check them out below.

I hope some of you are able to make it to these events!

Leigh Bardugo announced via Twitter today that she will be making an appearance at this year’s Comic Con in San Diego, California.

The dates for San Diego Comic Con this year are July 18-21st, and all badges are already sold out.

No word yet on which day(s) Leigh will be there but she did hint at participating in panels and autograph signings!

We’ll update you as soon as we can!

Who will be going to San Diego Comic Con? I unfortunately have to miss out because of a wedding, but I hope some of you are able to see her!

Hey guys, sorry that I’ve been absent for awhile there. I’m working on building this site up, and handing off some responsibility of my first blog, WhatANerdGirlSays, so I can focus on this one.

Tonight, I ventured down to the Grove in Los Angeles to see Leigh Bardugo, in a Fandom panel with Legend author Marie Lu, Avatar: The Last Airbender creator, Michael DiMartino and Prison Break/The Walking Dead writer, Seth Hoffman.

It was a very enjoyable panel in which the four of them discussed the idea of fandom, both for the fandoms that they created, and for the fandoms they are part of. Marie Lu talked about watching Game of Thrones with her boyfriend, and writing a seriously sad fan fiction of Sonic the Hedgehog. Mike talked a little bit about the inspiration for Avatar and Legend of Korra and what it was like to meet George R.R. Martin. Seth was hilarious and spoke about a particular TWD fan wanting a relationship between, get this, Carl and Hershel. ( I have no words for that).

Leigh spoke about being a writer, and how she believes that its less about wanting to do it, and more about actually doing it. She revealed that we will find out The Darkling’s real name in book three, and we will find out more about him and his past as well. So exciting! It was also SO funny when she talked about how people shipped Alina, The Darkling, Mal and Sturmhond as one big ship. I like it haha. Leigh was hilarious as always, and can be super inspirational one moment and then super relatable, a fangirl like the rest of us.

Now, for the fun part. I’ve met Leigh twice before this so I’ve had the opportunity to get both Shadow and Bone AND Siege and Storm signed. So I did a little something for you guys!

I have a couple autographed prizes, plus some Grisha swag to give away! Check out what you can win below!

A brand new contest was just recently announced on Tumblr, hosted by New Leaf Literary and Macteen Books Tumblr.

This coming Wednesday, Leigh Bardugo will be part of a panel at the Grove in Los Angeles with author, Marie Lu (the Legend Trilogy), Michael DiMartino (creator of Avatar: The Last Airbender and The Legend of Korra) and Seth Hoffman (who is a writer for The Walking Dead and Prison break).

I will be there and I am EXTREMELY excited about this :) I have met Leigh twice already but you can never meet an author you admire so much enough times. Plus, after this event, I will have a VERY special contest to announce!

Anyway, in celebration of this super great panel, and these amazing and aspiring writers being together in one spot, a Tumblr fan art contest is being held.

In order to enter your bit of artwork, whether in inspiration of the Grisha trilogy or not, you simply post it to Tumblr, using the hashtag: #PowerofFandom. You MUST MUST MUST use this hashtag or else your artwork won’t even be noticed!

Anyone can enter, and it must be posted by Monday, June 24th by 11:30 pm EST. The winner will be the one who gets the most “notes” on their post :)

The winner will receive a print out of their artwork signed by the four awesome people above.

For more information, click the link here and good luck!
